I have been stuck in a bit of a rut, lately. It probably has to do with moving cities and starting from scratch. I had gotten used to the sights and sounds of Harbin, the morning market grannies knew what I bought as they would call out “the foreigner is here”; I had become part of the community that the elderly would trust me with helping them with their groceries up the stairs, the owner of the family restaurant downstairs would offer me a warm meal and a quick chat on those bitterly cold evenings. I have had to start all over again and I had forgotten how exhausting it is.
I’ve really had to dig deep and as I was scrolling on Twitter, a blogger had posted a list of things that made her happy. A special friend also asked me, “When was the last time you did yoga and meditated or did your weird *witch stuff?” Then right on the spot, I had a Carrie Bradshaw moment.
What makes me happy? I have a long list. It was short until I sat down in silence, phone off, candles lit and all sorts of cosy and I seriously thought about it. I had to break it down into different facets of my life. Holy smokes, there is so much to be thankful for! Safe to say, I am no longer stuck in a rut! After a 70-minute full moon gratitude yoga session, I had the best night’s sleep I have had in two months! Obviously, living as an expatriate in China and travelling to a new destination multiple times a year are just two of the things to be grateful for. With this said, I thought I’d share a highlight reel. Okay, not quite a reel but instead, photographs.
What makes you happy? What are you grateful for?
